One Day, 3 States

Left Steamboat Monday morning with a nice quiet fuel pump.  Sounded like the fix worked and the pump got the rest it needed.  We had a beautiful drive on 40 to Dinosaur, CO.

Wide Open Road - No Interstate Traffic!

Shortly thereafter we entered our second state of the day, Utah.  A family traveling from TN was kind enough to take our photo.

Utah - Love the Sign!

Our next stop was Dinosaur National Monument.  They have a whole face of rock with Dino bones in the quarry display.  Quite amazing to be looking at all of that ancient history in person.  The second photo gives a sense of scale as Kelly is on the second floor of the center.

Our next destination was the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area.  We were hoping for some better weather to see it in, as the sky had become quite white/gray.

Heading up to Flaming Gorge we stopped at an overlook and discovered our boiling gas issue had returned.  The fuel pump had also started making more noise again.  Nothing to do but snap a photo and press on at this point.

Lots of Wide Open Space Up Here

The boiling issue only seemed to occur while we were going up the passes as we didn't have any pressure buid up at the next check.  The fuel pump still didn't sound happy though.  At least we have a brand new spare pump in the trunk if we need it!

We passed a herd of bighorn sheep on the way to the visitor's center.  They were right next to the road on both sides.  Grazing next to a loud muscle car didn't seem to bother them at all!

Flaming Gorge was beautiful and the weather cleared up enough for us to get some blue some blue sky.  The Internet's really slow now, so I'll have to post pics later.

We also drove through the Sheep Creek Geologic loop which was a cool drive through all the various formations.

From Flaming Gorge, we hit our 3rd state of the day, WY.  Lots more open country and some interesting clouds.  Kemmerer, WY was our destination for the night as we prepared for some fish fossil hunting the next day.

Overall a great day of driving through some terrific scenery!
