Let's Try That Again

No farewell photos this time, as we left at 4AM for the drive straight to St. Louis.  I drove the first leg as Kelly isn't such an early morning person. We decided to take I-40 through TN this time to avoid construction that we ran into on Saturday on our first attempt.

Cruised through NC and over the mountains with no problems and into TN.  Kelly took over the driving and I got a nap in as she drove through Knoxville and toward Nashville.  About 8 hours into the drive the engine stopped and she pulled to the side of the road again!

Given the new circumstances we concluded that not only did we have electrical issues, which we had taken care of, but we also had a failing fuel pump.  Fortunately the car started back up and we pulled off at the next exit to consider our options.  After determining that we were close to Lebanon, TN, we made some calls and found a Carquest that had a fuel pump that might work 7 miles away.

We made it to the Carquest where Kelly proceeded to stun them with her knowledge.  At one point when she rattled off the model and part number of the fuel pump she was running the guy helping her said that she had caught him totally off guard and he hadn't entered any of into the computer!

They warmed up to the challenge and were really trying to figure out a way to get us back on the road.  Finally, the guy helping us said he "had a guy" that was a racer that might be able to help us out.  After talking to him a few to times they figured out that the guy had a pump that he had pulled when he switched back to carburetion that  should work.  $50 and he'd even bring it over!

The Carquest guys even let us pull Jane into the rear of their shop (even though they hadn't sold us a thing) and we changed out the pump in 30 mins and we were back on the road after a 3 hour delay.  Just a note - Kelly had a new pump shipped overnight to St. Louis to carry with her the rest of the trip!

Changing Out the Pump

Many Thanks to Car quest in Lebanon!!!
